In March 2016, AlphaGo defeated Lee Sedol, a high-ranked professional Go player, in three out of four games—becoming the first artificial intelligence in history to master the complex strategy game. Since then, the use of artificial intelligence has advanced from virtual assistants such as Siri or Alexa to recommendation systems, facial recognition, and medical diagnostics. But what defines a computer program as an artificial intelligence—and what are the implications of AI becoming more commonplace as it continues to advance? Dr. Michael Wollowski, Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an expert in artificial intelligence, will explore the nature and ramifications of AI.
