Which is better: the book or the movie? Decide for yourself when you read Margot Lee Shetterly’s Hidden Figures, the story of three exceptional black women whose ground-breaking work in mathematics was critical to the success of NASA’s early crewed spaceflights. Then, watch the 2016 film adaptation of Hidden Figures and discuss the lives of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, the challenges they faced, and the differences between their portrayals in the book and the film. Rated PG.

Hidden Figures is part of VCPL's Advancing Racial Equity Collection, which was made possible through a grant from Indiana Humanities with funds from LIlly Endowment, Inc.
